A few issues that are addressed in the course:

  • Why is listening important?

  • How do people typically listen?

  • What stops us from listening.

  • How to listen effectively.

"Enhance your ability to know what to listen to and improve your ability to change the perspective you are listening from.
"

"To listen closely and reply well is the highest perfection we are able to attain in the art of conversation."

     Francois de La Rochefoucauld (1613 - 1680)

The art and science of effective listening is a rewarding skill, probably the most valuable and least understood area of communication. How can you know peoples' needs, desires, concerns and motivations without listening? Effective listening eliminates/prevents conflict, turns potential adversaries into partners, yields cooperation and support, and ensures a win/win situation for buyer and seller. But effective listening is not passive. The effective listener is an active communicator focusing on a dialogue which seeks out the needs, desires, concerns, and motivations of others.
